README

Peruse-a-Rue

A Street View implementation for Liquid Galaxy.

Installing Node.js

The Peruse-a-Rue server requires Node.js and npm. Instructions for installing Node.js on all supported platforms can be found on their website:

http://nodejs.org/

Installing Peruse-a-Rue

Peruse-a-Rue can be installed from git:

$ git clone https://code.google.com/p/liquid-galaxy.lg-peruse-a-rue/
$ cd liquid-galaxy.lg-peruse-a-rue
Installing Node deps

npm can read the dependency list from package.json in the current directory. While in the Peruse-a-Rue git root:

$ npm install
Using the spacenav-emitter

To use a SpaceNavigator with the Peruse-a-Rue server, you must first compile and run the spacenav-emitter binary. This tool reads events from the SpaceNavigator and emits them as UDP datagrams, which allows you to attach the SpaceNav to a different host than the Peruse server.

First, compile the binary:

$ gcc -o spacenav-emitter src/spacenav-emitter.c

Now find the SpaceNav device. It should be symlinked from /dev/input/by-id:

$ ls -l /dev/input/by-id
total 0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Oct 13 16:54 usb-3Dconnexion_SpaceNavigator-event-if00 -> ../event8
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Sep 23 22:08 usb-Logitech_USB_Receiver-if02-event-kbd -> ../event3
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Sep 23 22:08 usb-Logitech_USB_Receiver-if02-event-mouse -> ../event2
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Sep 23 22:08 usb-Logitech_USB_Receiver-if02-mouse -> ../mouse0

You may need to fix the permissions:

$ sudo chmod 0644 /dev/input/by-id/usb-3Dconnexion_SpaceNavigator-event-if00

Now run spacnav-emitter, directing it at the Peruse-a-Rue UDP port:

$ ./spacenav-emitter /dev/input/by-id/usb-3Dconnexion_SpaceNavigator-event-if00 127.0.0.1 8086

You can use socat to verify that data is coming through on the receiving host:

$ socat UDP-LISTEN:8086 STDOUT

You should see a bunch of gibberish when you move the SpaceNav.

Usage

The Peruse-a-Rue server can be started with the launcher script:

$ bin/peruse-a-rue
TCP

Peruse-a-Rue serves all of its HTTP and WebSockets from a single socket.

The default port for this traffic is 8086. To override it, launch with the -p/–port option:

$ bin/peruse-a-rue --port 9091
UDP

Peruse-a-Rue also receives UDP datagrams from input device listeners. The default port for this traffic is 8086. To override it, launch with the -u/–udp-port option:

$ bin/peruse-a-rue --udp-port 7702
Configuration

The default configuration is in config_defaults.json. Any configuration key may be overridden by creating a config.json, which is merged with the defaults when the server starts.

Configuration Keys

Chrome is the only browser supported by Peruse-a-Rue. Chromium probably works too.
